Veteran educator and coach, Dr. Judy Favor began her career with a 3-year stint at Wellsville-
Middletown high school where she served as head varsity basketball and softball coach and taught 8th
grade English. She then landed her first college coaching position at Southeast Missouri State University
where she helped guide the Otahkians to a 4th place finish in the 1991 NCAA Division II National
Tournament.
Favor was named head coach at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, in 1992 and quickly
developed one of the premier NCAA Division II teams in the nation. After only 3 years, CSU earned
their first NCAA national ranking and first birth to the NCAA Tournament. The previously unknown
CSU softball program quickly became one of the most highly respected fastpitch programs in NCAA
Division II, finishing the 1999 season as the #1 ranked team in the nation and claiming 2 conference
championships and five 2nd place finishes during her 7-year tenure.
In 2000, Favor took the reigns at Wichita State University and led the dismal 9th place Shockers to a
6th place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference in only two years. Under Favor's guidance, the
Shockers finished in the top 3 in the conference in hitting, improved in every statistical category, set a
new WSU homerun record, and defeated Big 12 rivals Kansas and Oklahoma State University.
Respected among college colleagues for her ability to develop and get the most out of her players, Favor
has conducted softball lessons, camps, and clinics for over 25 years. She is a member of the National
Fastpitch Coaches Association and holds bachelor’s degrees in physical education and English, a
master’s degree in School Guidance and Counseling, and earned a Ph.D. in Education with a major in
Sport Management and minor in Higher Education from the University of Kansas.
